I wish to recommend to fellow Malaysian students in Japan to make the best out of the opportunity to be in Japan. To be here, with substantial amount of financial support (for those who coming on scholarship), is a privilege that must be appreciated at its most.
Japan is member of G7, which possess substantial role among advanced economies. Having that said, we are living in one of the most competitive countries in the world. This must lead us to think that the talents we are meeting, the order & system we are living in, they all have substantial contribution in building Japan that we are residing in now.
Most Malaysian students who came here possess our very own Japanese language ability, be it N3, N2 or N1. Hence, making full use of the language ability through the means of bringing down the wall of hesitation will help us to explore further opportunities in life.
Try to add as much as value as possible in the conversations that we are participating in. Sometimes, the act of listening well also will bring value to the conversation, be it directly or indirectly. We may not be able to engage perfectly during our first try, but always believe in yourself - that you will do better as time passes.
Furthermore, Japanese society is a mature society. Though their language and culture might evolve over time, Japanese core belief revolving around honesty, patience and perseverance in discharging their responsibilities are indeed commendable.
The tacit knowledge (hidden know-how) that we earn throughout our studies over here in Japan will be very much valuable in the future when we become 社会人 (shakai-jin or working adults).
As we meet more people in our life in the future, we will discover explicit distinction between those who possess knowledge and who do not. In Muslim's scripture, we were reminded of “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” (39:9) and "God will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees." (58:11).
Therefore, we need to take this opportunity to learn as much as we are able to, in order to be a holistic individual, to serve the world in the means that God has given us.
