FUKUI, 11 October 2026 — The Bureau of Sports and Recreation of the Malaysian Students’ Association in Japan (MSAJ), led by Zulfahmi bin Muhammad, brought together more than 170 Malaysian students and working professionals from across Japan at Fukui City Gymnasium for Hari Sukan Malaysia (HSM) 2026.

HSM 2026 was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Dato’ Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, together with three officials from the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo. Joining them were Mr Hiroki Takada, Mayor of Echizen Town, Mr Kazuichiro Tokida, Member of the Fukui Prefectural Assembly and seven officials from the Fukui Prefectural Government and Echizen Town Office. Special appreciation goes to Mr Mohammad Syairir, Senior Staff of the International Exchange Office of Echizen Town, whose close cooperation with MSAJ made HSM 2026 a meaningful bridge between Malaysia and Japan.

Featuring four sporting events, badminton, volleyball, futsal, and netball, HSM 2026 celebrated sportsmanship, friendship, and unity among Malaysians living in Japan. Beyond the competition, the event provided a platform for participants to reconnect, build new relationships, and strengthen ties within the Malaysian community.

The event was further enlivened by the participation of His Excellency, Dato’ Ahmad Rozian, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, and Mr Khairul Anuar, Counsellor of the Education and Training Division, joined the Men’s Doubles champions for a friendly one-set badminton match. Meanwhile, Ms Norfazlina, First Secretary of the Education and Training Division, served as the referee for the netball finals held in the sub-arena.

Their involvement added to the spirit of camaraderie, highlighting how sports can bring people together beyond the boundaries of competition.

The closing ceremony featured speeches by Dato’ Ahmad Rozian and ‘Ariqah Sarah, President of MSAJ, followed by the presentation of awards to the winners in each sporting category. The ceremony recognised the participants’ achievements, dedication, and efforts throughout the competition.

Feedback from participants highlighted the opportunity to reconnect with fellow Malaysians, enjoy a vibrant sporting atmosphere, while making use of the excellent sports facilities.

Participants also shared constructive suggestions for future editions of HSM, providing valuable insights for the continued improvement of the event.

MSAJ extends its heartfelt appreciation to all participants, invited guests, supporting organisations, and everyone who contributed to the success of HSM 2026.

Special recognition goes to the organising committee, led by the Bureau of Sports and Recreation, as well as the volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Their dedication, teamwork, and countless hours of hard work were instrumental in ensuring the event running smoothly.

Guided by its motto, “Together in Sport, Stronger as One,” HSM 2026 served as a testament to the power of sports in fostering friendship, strengthening community bonds, and uniting Malaysians across Japan."
