MSAJ Tokkaido Celebrates Its First Regional Gathering with Dapur Tokkaido
FUKUSHIMA, 30 May 2026 – The Malaysian Students’ Association Japan (MSAJ) Tokkaido Region successfully hosted its inaugural cultural gathering, “Dapur Tokkaido,” at the Fukushima University International House Hall. As a newly established region (a combination of Tohoku and Hokkaido region), this milestone event brought together Malaysian students from Yamagata, a local working Malaysian in Fukushima, and Japanese and Taiwanese participants to connect physically and foster a strong community in northern Japan.
The program kicked off at 2:00 p.m. with a hands-on cooking session, where participants worked closely to prepare authentic Malaysian Chicken Rice using traditional ingredients like Basmati rice, and halal chicken. The kitchen offered a nostalgic taste of home for the Malaysian attendees and a wonderful introduction to Malaysian culture for international guests. Highlighting its local significance, representatives from prominent local newspapers, Fukushima Minpo and Fukushima Minyu, also attended to cover the cultural exchange.
The afternoon was defined by a wealth of meaningful interaction, with participants enthusiastically sharing stories, exchanging cultural perspectives, and building new friendships over their meal. The Tokkaido regional committee expressed immense satisfaction with the seamless teamwork and lively bonds formed.
