New Perspective

Anonymous
24 July 2026

I chased numbers,
thinking they were proof
that my dreams were getting closer.

At Pusat Bahasa Teikyo, for the first time,
I was no longer the student at the top.
No matter how many books I opened,
how many lunch breaks I gave away,
or how many weekends I spent in extra classes,
my grades refused to rise.

I thought effort
was supposed to have a visible reward.

Some days,
I wondered if Japan
was slipping farther away from me.

Yet my sensei kept saying,
“There will be a miracle from the EJU.”

I waited for that miracle.
When the results came,
I couldn’t find it.

Only later did I realize
I had been looking in the wrong place.

The miracle wasn’t hidden in my score.
It was hidden in my future.

JPA and MEXT opened a door
for all twenty-two of us.
That door led me
to the University of Fukui.

Looking back,
I see that not every victory
wears the face I expect.
Sometimes,
the path feels like failure
until it quietly becomes
the beginning of something greater.

A new perspective taught me this:
effort is never wasted,
even when its reward
arrives in a different form.
