Malaysia’s AI-Driven Sustainability: Discover the Future Where Technology Meets Environmental Stewardship
Osaka, 20 September— The Malaysian Students’ Association Japan (MSAJ) had the honour to attend the MJAA Symposium 2025, organized by the Malaysia–Japan Academic Association (MJAA) at OSAKA EXPO.
This year’s theme, “Malaysia’s AI-Driven Sustainability: Discover the Future Where Technology Meets Environmental Stewardship,” gathered distinguished professors, researchers, and students who are passionate about shaping a sustainable and technologically advanced future for Malaysia.
Representatives from MSAJ, including the President, Muhammad Anas and the General Secretary, ‘Ariqah Sarah together with six other Malaysian students currently studying in Japan participated in this prestigious event. The symposium featured two main sessions; Science & Engineering in the morning, and Social Science & Economics in the evening — offering a comprehensive view of how artificial intelligence can be integrated into various fields to promote innovation and sustainability.
Throughout the sessions, participants explored diverse topics such as AI in daily life, functional food production, human–machine collaboration, AI-driven precision models, and ethical considerations in using emerging technologies. The discussions encouraged attendees to rethink how Malaysia can apply these advancements to achieve balanced, responsible growth.
During the evening session, Prof. Emeritus Omar Farouq emphasized that progress without humanities is flawed, reminding everyone that technology must always serve humanity. Professor Chong, Symposium Director, discussed the issue of open access and the tragedy of the commons, while Assoc. Prof. Amy, founder of MJAA, highlighted the importance of the “Refuse, Reduce, Reuse” principles in realizing a circular economy.
The symposium concluded with panel discussions and a Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with experts. It was an enriching and eye-opening experience for all participants, offering valuable insights, professional connections, and inspiration to contribute to Malaysia’s sustainable and innovative future.
MSAJ expresses sincere appreciation to MJAA for the opportunity and looks forward to future collaborations that continue to strengthen the academic bridge between Malaysia and Japan.
